Company Profile
Beaver was first
registered in 1972 by M.K. and P.M. Tuttey with the object of
undertaking construction of Swimming Pools only.
In 1976 however,
after construction within the U.K. of some 80 pools, Beaver were
asked to offer a Consultancy to several overseas companies. Over the
year, this resulted in construction of pools not only in Europe but
in Saudi Arabia, Mauritius and Iran. The contract in Iran resulted
in an offer to form an Anglo/Iranian Pool company under the name of
Packa b and during this period pool complexes were completed in
Teheran, Esfahan, the Alborz Mountain region and the Caspian sea
area, including pools for the Shah of Iran and his Empress.
The overthrow of
the Shah in 1978 meant that our partner Ferydoun Azima had to flee
to Switzerland and this of course subsequently led to dissolution of
this partnership.
Beaver moved to
Bahrain where several contracts were already in progress and in
April 1978 Beaver registered as a WLL company under the CR No of
8872 and with the sponsorship of
Sheikh Isa bin Mohammed AlKhalifa (at that time President of
the High Council for Youth and Sport). This proved the beginning of
an extremely beneficial period for the Company and many pools were
completed including large commercial pools for hotel complexes and
leisure centres, public pools for resident compounds and domestic
pools for the Bahrainis and occasional Saudi Arabian which were very
often of the most sophisticated and complex design.
By 1980 Beaver
had extended their activities to include:
-
Saunas, Spas
and Steam Rooms
-
Ornamental
Fountains and Water Features
-
Tennis
Courts, Squash Courts and Associated Ball Courts
-
Artificial
Football Pitches
-
Gunite Works
and Concrete Renovation to Bridges, Mines etc.
-
Allied
Leisure Facilities such as Stadium Lighting, Seating etc.
Work increased
greatly and an office was opened at Ruwi in Oman under the name of
Oman Sports Services which undertook identical activities. Much work
was also undertaken in the Emirates and Turkey and eventually area
offices were opened in Qatar and Istanbul. During this period of
intense work throughout the Middle East, Beaver was divided into two
independent Companies, Beaver (U.K.) Ltd and Beaver International
Ltd.
Beaver (U.K.)
continued to trade in a small way in the U.K. but was eventually
sold and subsequently closed down. Beaver International also had an
office in the U.K. which was concerned primarily with the export of
materials to the Middle East and incorporated a technical
Consultancy for projects in other areas of the world.
During this
period Bill Tuttey, brother of Mike Tuttey completed his service
with the Fleet Air Arm and joined Beaver in the Middle East to train
as a specialist pool engineer. Upon his eventual return, a South
West branch of Beaver was opened by him in Helston, Cornwall, under
the name of Anchor Pools and this continues to trade strongly in
conjunction with Beaver International and is now in a position to
produce its own independent client register including many hotels,
resort pools and seaside features such as Dolphin Pools, sanctuaries
etc.
Beaver
International in Bahrain became the major office with Mike and Penny
Tuttey supervising the entire operation from this office.
Eventually, the
Company grew to such an extent that it was decided to sell the Oman
branch and to close the Turkish office where continual problems were
experienced with the Turkish exchange rates.
Strong ties and
full co-operation still exists between Oman Sports Services and
Beaver who continue to supply materials and expertise and whose
Chairman Mike Tuttey acts as Consultant for Oman.
The Bahrain
branch continued throughout the difficult Iran/Iraq war years, not
least because of a secondment awarded by the Heir Apparent of
Bahrain (Sheikh Hamed bin Isa AlKhalifa) to Beaver to act as sole
Leisure Facility Contractors to the Crown Court for an initial
period of 2 years. This Agreement expired only weeks after the
commencement of the Gulf war and it was at this time that Beaver
decided that the best course of action was to return to the U.K. and
rebuild Beaver in Britain.
The Bahrain and
U.K. branches were therefore separated to operate independently and
Bahrain was left under the Management of George Waddell and Roshan
Kachwahha (2 directors of the Company) whilst Mike and Penny Tuttey
returned to the U.K. to bring the small Beaver International
operation up to full strength again.
Reorganisation
took some time as did re-establishing our full presence in the U.K.
but eventually enquiries and orders began to increase until Beaver
were functioning fully once again. Specialising only in Swimming
Pool shells, filtration and water treatment plant, spas, saunas,
steam rooms and gym equipment through every aspect of design,
construction, maintenance and repair, Beaver have already completed
a wide selection of projects some of which are shown on the attached
summary. Beaver offer a completely unique service in their
Commercial Streamline service which undertakes refurbishment works
to commercial plant rooms within a time limit to enable local
authorities and schools to completely strip out and renew plant with
the very minimum shutdown period. Together with the competitive
prices offered, this service enables authorities to make the very
most of their often restricted budgets.
The majority of
works undertaken are of a commercial or semi commercial nature for
Main Contractors, Commercial Organisations, Education, Health and
Local Authorities, although the present economic (and health
conscious) climate has seen the upsurge of a great many semi
commercial type leisure complexes for private clients.
The Technical
Consultancy Service continues to provide a full Worldwide service
including technical assistance, design, production of tender
documents and specifications, drawings, computerised Data (including
CAD) and technical supervision, site management etc.
